Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
Lane is a Greater Toronto Area auto-financing referral service that connects consumers, particularly newcomers to Canada and people rebuilding credit, with vetted dealership partners. In this policy, "Lane", "we", "us" or "our" refers to the Lane referral business operated from Serving the Greater Toronto Area. You can reach our privacy contact at hello@drivelane.ca.
2. What information we collect
When you submit our pre-qualify form, we collect:
- Identity & contact: full name, email address, phone number.
- Financing context you provide: vehicle of interest, monthly budget, down payment, employment status, credit situation, and any free-text message.
- Consent record: whether you agreed to our consent statement, the version of the consent text you saw, the timestamp, your IP address, and your browser user agent.
We do not perform a hard credit check from this website. Any hard credit inquiry is performed later by the dealership partner, only with your separate written consent at that time.
3. How we use your information
- To match you with a suitable GTA dealership partner.
- To contact you (email, phone, SMS, or messaging apps) about your inquiry.
- To improve our service, prevent fraud, and meet our legal and record-keeping obligations.
- If, and only if, you opted in, to send you occasional marketing emails about credit-building tips, newcomer car-buying, and Lane updates. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any marketing email or by emailing us.
4. Who we share your information with
We share your information only with:
- One dealership partner at a time, selected based on your stated situation, for the purpose of pre-qualifying you for financing. Once shared, the dealership becomes an independent controller of that information under its own privacy policy.
- Service providers who help us run the business (for example, hosting, email delivery, and database providers), under contractual confidentiality obligations.
- Authorities or regulators where we are legally required to do so, or to protect our rights, property, or safety.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third-party marketing or data-broker lists.
5. Legal basis (PIPEDA)
We process your information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy laws. Our primary legal basis is your express consent, which you provide by checking the consent box on our pre-qualify form.
6. How long we keep it
We keep lead information for as long as reasonably needed to provide the service, respond to follow-up questions, and meet our legal and accounting obligations, typically up to 24 months after your last interaction, after which we delete or anonymize it.
7. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Withdraw your consent and request deletion of your information.
- Opt out of marketing emails at any time.
- Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@drivelane.ca. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards (encrypted transport, role-based access, row-level database security) to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you. Continued use of the service after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
