New to Canada · Car finance

A new country.
A new set of wheels.

Lane helps newcomers across Canada — PR, work permit, citizen — get into a car without a Canadian credit history. We match you to lenders with real newcomer programs, explain the true cost of owning a car here, and stay with you from first question to keys in hand.

Who this is for

Built for your first months (or years) in Canada.

If you've been told you need 2 years of Canadian credit before anyone will talk to you about a car loan — that's outdated. Several lenders price newcomers fairly from week one.

  • Permanent residents and citizens — recent landings welcome
  • Work permit holders with verifiable income
  • International students with co-signer or strong income
  • No SIN-based credit file required for newcomer programs
  • Bank statements accepted in place of long credit history
  • Programs available across all 10 provinces
What actually matters

The honest picture, in plain English.

  • No Canadian credit yet

Newcomer programs don't pull a credit score the way traditional loans do. They look at income, status, and stability.

  • Insurance is the real shock

First-year insurance in Ontario for a new driver can rival a car payment. We tell you the all-in number before you sign.

  • Winter tires aren't optional

In most provinces you'll want a second set. Budget $800–$1,400. Quebec requires them by law.

  • Down payment isn't always required

Several newcomer programs go zero down. Others reward $1,000–$2,000 with a meaningfully better rate.

  • Your loan builds your credit

Provided the lender reports to Equifax/TransUnion — most do. On-time payments stack credit fast.

  • Don't sign the same day you visit

Walk away, read the contract, ask the Coach. A good deal will still be there tomorrow.

How it works

Three steps. No pressure.

  1. 01

    Tell us your situation

60 seconds. Status, income range, where in Canada you are. No credit pull at this stage.

  2. 02

    We match the right lender

We work only with lenders who actually serve newcomers — no time wasted on hard nos.

  3. 03

    Pick your car, drive away

Approved means approved. We help you choose a car that fits the budget, not the other way around.

Common questions

Frequently asked.

Can I get a car loan as a newcomer with no Canadian credit history?
Yes. Several Canadian lenders have newcomer programs that don't require a domestic credit file. We match you to the ones built for your situation — work permit, PR, or citizen — and walk you through what they'll actually look at: income, residency, and stability.
How long do I need to be in Canada to qualify?
There's no universal minimum, but most newcomer-friendly programs work from day one if you have valid status and verifiable income. A few prefer 3+ months of Canadian pay stubs. We'll tell you straight which lane fits today vs. in a few months.
Do I need a Canadian co-signer?
Not for most newcomer programs. A co-signer can unlock better rates, but it isn't a gate. We've placed plenty of newcomers solo.
What documents will I need?
Usually: government ID (PR card, work permit, or passport with status), proof of address (lease or utility), recent pay stubs or 60–90 days of bank statements, and a valid Canadian driver's licence (or G1/G2 in Ontario, equivalents elsewhere).
Will this help me build Canadian credit?
Yes. An auto loan reported to Equifax and TransUnion is one of the fastest ways to establish credit history — provided you pay on time. We coach you on which programs report and how to use the loan to build a real file.
Is there a cost to use Lane?
No. Lane is free for buyers. We're paid a referral fee by the dealership when you close — never by you.
